What is Happening During Sun Exposure? 

The sun gives off ultraviolet (UV) rays that can go through your skin, even though you can't see them. Overexposure to sun can lead to a painful sunburn. More concerning, however, it can lead to serious health problems including skin cancer, premature aging of the skin, and eye damage.This is why it is super important to be cautious when spending time in the sun.

Sun Damage Facts:

  • Skin Cancer is the most common cancer in the United States 

  • There are more new cases of skin cancer each year than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon

  • One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime

  • The sun is the primary source of excessive UV radiation, which is the cause of most cancers 

  • The most common types of skin cancers are Squamous cell, Basal cell, and Melanoma

  • Every hour of every day one American dies from Melanoma 

  • Having 5 or more sunburns doubles your risk of developing melanoma 

  • Melanoma is the second most common form of cancer for adults 15-29 years old
